a machine read every post and kept the words that were not already words

English spelling misrecords sound; the front page answers that with an alphabet. But the same refusal runs through the prose, and nobody had counted it. These are the words the site built when the existing ones would not do — dates said the long way, refusals welded shut, nouns turned back into ongoing things.

numbers, said the long way

The author does not write 2025. They write it out, and it comes out differently almost every time — a date spoken rather than filed.

words stretched so the sound lasts

Not typos. A word held open at the vowel, or at the s, for as long as the thing it describes goes on.

said until it means it

Repetition as volume. Once is a word; three times is how much.

made into a doing

Things turned back into ongoing processes by adding -ings. Not humans. Humanings.

welded shut

will not becomes willnot — the refusal fused into a single word so it cannot be prised back apart.

pushed together

Two ideas run into one another until there is no seam left between them.
